Trail lovers are in for a treat – the 16th edition of Krk’n’Trail, Croatia’s first trail race and a legendary Treking Liga event, once again brings one of the most exciting sporting challenges of the Baška Outdoor Festival.

Krk’n’Trail is a race that brings everyone together – from experienced trail runners and serious athletes to recreational runners, groups of friends and those who simply want to see whether they can go a little farther than they thought. That is exactly why it attracts so many participants year after year, turning Baška into a true little hub of the trail-running scene. From the start to the course and the finish line, there is running, cheering, encouragement and socialising everywhere. The energy that fills Baška that day is difficult to describe – you simply have to experience it.

The routes lead across the rocky western ridge of the Baška Valley, through karst terrain, dry-stone walls and old shepherds’ paths. Rocks beneath your feet, the sea beside you and views that become more spectacular the farther you get from Baška. The longest route stretches all the way to Stara Baška.

And when you turn back towards the finish line, Baška lies below you in full view. A panorama to remember – and a photo you’ll definitely want to put on Instagram.

Three distances, three levels of challenge and plenty of reasons for everyone to find their perfect route – whether you want to complete your first trail race, beat your personal best or simply enjoy one of the most spectacular parts of the island of Krk.

But Krk’n’Trail has never been just a race.

Rock Climbing – Anima Adventures

Baška boasts four equipped climbing areas, each offering a slightly different experience on the rock. Compact limestone, slabs, overhangs, different sectors and routes – plenty for experienced climbers, but also for those who would like to try this exciting sport for the first time.

Due to great interest, the Anima Adventures team will organise climbing at two locations – Portafortuna climbing area on Saturday and Belove Stene on Sunday.

And don’t worry if this is your first experience with rock climbing. Touch the Sky is designed for beginners, and licensed Anima Adventures instructors will be there to introduce you to the basics of climbing and safely guide you through your first ascent.

And then comes the best part. Metre by metre, hold by hold, the rock gets higher and the view gets better. While you focus on your next move, Baška slowly opens up beneath you.

Portafortuna on Saturday, Belove Stene on Sunday – two cliffs, two different experiences and the same reward at the top: a view that will make you want to climb another route.

Hiking Tour – Anakin Adventures

Baška is a true playground for active holiday enthusiasts – more than 120 kilometres of maintained and marked walking and hiking trails lead through a landscape where the sea, mountains, karst and stone meet rich cultural and traditional heritage. Every trail tells its own story, every climb reveals a new panorama, and the diversity of the landscape means there is always a new and unique side of Baška to discover.

This year’s Rocky Hill Hike Tour takes you along the eastern ridge of the Baška Valley, into the heart of Baška’s rugged and fascinating landscape – from historic Jurandvor, across Zakam and Diviška, all the way to the otherworldly Moon Plateau. Over 14.5 kilometres, guided by Anakin Adventures, discover Baška from a completely different perspective.

After meeting in Baška, we will head towards Jurandvor, a place that gave Croatian history one of its most important monuments of Croatian literacy – the Baška Tablet. We will visit the St Lucy complex before leaving the historic surroundings behind and heading towards the mountains.

The trail leads through a fragrant pine forest towards Zakam, where the first spectacular view of Baška, the sea, the Church of St John and the island of Prvić awaits us. Continuing towards Diviška (471 m), the landscape becomes increasingly rugged – rocks, karst, dry-stone walls and old shepherds’ paths lead us towards one of the most distinctive landscapes on the island of Krk.

On the Moon Plateau, bare rock and karst create an almost otherworldly scene, which is exactly how this remarkable place earned its unusual name. Views towards the deep bays of Mala Luka and Vela Luka provide an additional reward for the effort of the climb, and with a little luck, griffon vultures from the nearby Kuntrep ornithological reserve may soar above us.

Along the way, we will also discover traces of the life that unfolded here for centuries – dry-stone walls, ponds and mrgari, unique stone structures that bear witness to the tradition of communal pastures and sheep farming. A particularly interesting stop is Diviška, below the peak of the same name, with its characteristic shepherds’ walls that once divided the area into five sections used for watering sheep.

The return to Baška follows the “Path to the Moon”, through pine forest and rocky terrain, with new panoramic views of the Baška Valley and the sea.

From the Baška Tablet to the Moon Plateau – one day, countless views and a completely different perspective of Baška.
