Outdoor

Whether you’re a fan of trekking, running, cycling, climbing, diving, sailing or you prefer to spend your time in nature in other ways, the landscape of Baška is here to provide unforgettable scenery for your experience.

Hiking

The 90 kilometres (56 mi) of marked hiking trails to be found in Baška provide the opportunity to familiarise oneself with the area in a radically innovative fashion. Once the “Trail to the Moon and Back" has been followed all the way up to the „Moon Plateau“, a visit may be paid to the church of St. Lucy, where one of the most valuable monuments of Croatian history - the Baška tablet- has been found; those who wish to devote the entire day to hiking, on the other hand, may choose to follow the trail as far as the bird sanctuary of Kuntrep.

In the early morning hours in the summer months a walk to either Vela Luka or Mala Luka is warmly recommended: visitors may enjoy these beautiful bays until the late afternoon, and then make their way back into town in the comfortable shade afforded by the falling evening.

There is a rich selection of trails from which visitors may choose; regardless of which one they pick, it can be guaranteed that there will be a special moment and a stunning view that will make their hiking efforts worth their while.

The history and life of a town is best learnt by living the environment in which they had their inception to the full. The six-kilometer-long „Baška-Zarok-Batomalj-Pod Lipicau Educational Trail” provides the opportunity to do just that by means of a 2.5-hour walk through the Baška valley's unique landscape, history and tradition. Visitors are introduced to Baška's history and to the nature that have given it its present shape; other highlights include the unique Zarok sandstone, the Vela Rika watercourse, and Batomalj’s historical shrine of Our Lady of Gorica.

Biking

The network of cycling trails begins right after the Krk Bridge and may be followed all the way to Baška, where both road and mountain biking trails await visitors to show them some of the most beautiful views they will ever encounter in their lives. Cycling is a great way to release the stress of everyday life, and Baška provides the chance to pedal through some of the most beautiful landscapes ever.

Besides the 11 km-long trail from Zarok to Draga Bašćanska, which is suitable for beginners and families with children, there is a popular mountain bike route that leads to the "Moon Plateau". The reason behind its popularity becomes clear after some pedalling: despite the route's level of difficulty, there is a postcard view around every corner, as well as new vantage points from which to observe Baška's many sights. The Church of St. John constitutes an unmissable stop, and is a place many will undoubtedly visit repeatedly: indeed, the view available from there is nothing short of magic, both in the morning and in the late afternoon.

There is a rich selection of trails from which visitors may choose; regardless of which one they pick, it can be guaranteed that there will be a special moment and a stunning view that will make their hiking efforts worth their while.

Water Sports

The sea is what placed Baška on the map of summer destinations and granted it the status of one of the most visited Adriatic destinations, so tradition dictates that the outdoor offer must obviously include water sports.

The beach of Vela Plaža, the most prominent part of a summer in Baška, caters for various forms of water sports, such as parasailing, surfing, and sailing. Visitors may thus dive into the blue sea and become acquainted with its underwater beauty, or else admire Baška in the new perspective from above afforded by parasailing.

Climbing Areas

Baška possesses four climbing areas that will equally satisfy those who are new to climbing and those who already consider climbing their lifestyle.

The climbing area in Bunculuka is located on the very edge of the FKK camp above which the starting points of the Vela Luka and Mala Luka trails are situated; it offers ten climbing directions that are available throughout the year.

Bag, our second climbing area, is located at the end of Baška’s popular Vela Plaža Beach. The trail that leads there will also take you to the eponymous summit of Bag and the Ljubimer mrgar (dry stone sheepfold), which offers a truly spectacular view of the entire Baška valley!

The other two climbing areas can be enjoyed from March to December - Portafortuna has 76 directions divided into four sectors and is the first choice of many climbers in Baška.

The latest addition to Baška’s outdoor offer is the Belove Stijene climbing area, which is extremely interesting because it is really rare to find such a variety of rock types in one climbing area, where each sector has its story to tell. Although this climbing area has still not been completely explored, we are continuously working on expanding it by increasing the number of routes.

Belove Stijene is a great choice because this area already offers about fifty climbing routes that will provide you with amazing views and an experience to remember.
